You were never the most colorfully dressed person. Yes, you liked color but, they had to be one hue or combination. No rainbow on clothes, no multicolored ribbons. No. But, alas, you worked in Circus, so you were constantly surrounded by color. You actually thanked your stars when you were in a more drab place like Research Tower or Kichii's dark blue room. You had tried to become accustomed to such a loudly colored place and, for the most part, had succeeded. The others, chiefly Eva, still tried to get you out of your calmly colored clothing and, into something more shiny or bright. You would politely deny their suggestions to dress brighter. At one point it became so unbearable that you couldn't stand anyone other than Hirato. Let's face it,  his black suit and tie was splendidly simple.
He never asked why you were in the library with him or why you would ask to learn about the computer system in the control room. He seemed to be accustomed to your company, and soon, you would chat together about whatever came to mind. Yes you did quite enjoy his company, and you assumed he enjoyed  yours. Hirato was not the kind to put up with pestering people, or be used as an emotional crutch.
One particularly sunny day you meandered the empty corridors, pardoning a few sheep robots here and there. There were only two places the Second Airship Captain would be on a day like this; the library or the ships' deck. the library would have warm sun spilling in from the windows, and he would be sitting at his desk rummaging through stacks of paperwork. A smile crept onto your face at the thought. You opened the grand doors that lead into the library and were slightly saddened to see it empty. Your shoulders dropped and you hoped a hopeless hope that he wasn't were he was bound to be. Today was the day that you had actually worn something more colorful. A teal and lavender dress draped your figure, the skirt was shorter than your usual skirts. You tugged on the hem as you walked to the stair case. Of course he was on the damned deck on a day like this and, it would be really windy the ship was in flight. You marched up the stairs to the almost dizzying level of the deck panel. You slid it open and stepped up onto the deck and were immediately buffeted by the wind. He stood leaning against the railing and how his top hat managed to stay on was a conundrum to you.
"Hello!" you called over the wind, you had one hand on your dress to keep the wind from flashing your boss.
"Hello (y/n), did you come to join me up here?" He asked with a slight smile.
"Yes, though I figured you would be in the library where it's warm," you replied, lacing your free arm over your occupied one.
"I like the wind, it's nice on a day like this, are you cold?" he asked. He watched as you nodded, the sun seemed to have no warmth in the gale force wind. You watched as he worked his back suit jacket off and wrapped it around your shoulders.
While you put your arms in the sleeves you took in the sight before you. Hirato, with his hair whipping around in the wind smiling at you, and now almost casually dressed. Little did you know he was also taking in the sight. You were much smaller than him and so, the jacket was longer than your dress and your hands were buried in his sleeves. He smiled because not only did you look cute but you looked claimed. Out of the corner of his eye you seemed to only looked like you were wearing his jacket. He fought a chuckle building.
You now had both hands freed up and you could hang on to the railing and watch the scenery roll by under the ship. You leaned further over the railing causing fear to seep into your veins. You had nothing to fear of course: you were a member of Circus and just like everyone else in the organization you could fly but, it was fun forget that now and again.
"The colors are beautiful..." you said wistfully, believing that the wind had taken your words.
"You'll either have to come closer or speak up for me to hear you up here," Hirato said, and you hesitantly slid a step closer.
"The colors below are beautiful," this time he stepped closer to you.
"Not as bright as the ones we're around everyday are they?" he asked almost teasingly.
"I do like colors that everyone wears, just not as brightly as they are. That's part of why I like you," you had said the last part very softly to make the words get stolen by the wind.
"What is?" he asked, apparently he had heard.
"Well, you don't wear obnoxious colors," you said locking your gaze over the fields. "You have a calm and warm color about you. The dusty plum of your hair and your dark mysterious eyes, I like that about you," you said. He had been your windbreaker and then he was gone. Wind racked your frame along with the sense of rejection that you suddenly had.
"(Y/n)," the sound of his voice calling your name brought a sense of impending doom, "Let's continue this inside where it's less noisy."
You followed him down the stairs and the corridors, he would want the jacket back. It wasn't giving you any warmth now, just a guilty and burdened feeling. You couldn't bear the tension or silence any longer and each step made your heart beat more and more wildly out of control.
"Hirato!" you burst out, causing him to spin on heel and look at you, "I'm sorry if I offended you, or put you off, I mean I do like you... I- the stuff I just said- I understand if you only think of me only as a subordinate-- I'm sorry!"
He looked shocked, he looked almost agitated, "(y/n) I truly do not know how you took my saying "let's go inside" as rejection but, it was nothing of the sort," his voice softened on his next delivery. "I think you are simply enchanting, I have become quite fond of you," his eyes held a sort of mischievous twinkle, how had he not picked up on her indications? he wondered. She was the kind of girl men fought over and, if he was honest with himself he would agree that he was crazy for waiting to make moves. You knew by his simple and gentlemanly 'Quite fond' he meant he was truly wild about you.
Yaay Karneval xReaders!! I'm so sorry I hadn't posted this sooner! I wrote it in my study hall weeks ago, and I have been too lazy to type it out. If you haven't watched this anime I HIGHLY suggest it. It. Is. Marvelous. Or check out the Manga if that's your thing either way I hope you enjoy!
